Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries (SEAL): Home

The Space Science Institute has made two types of eclipse program kits available to State Library agencies to support library staff to engage their patrons around these events. These kits can be borrowed by Alabama public libraries, but due to their limited supply, their availability will be limited. Reservations can be made by library staff by clicking on the green reservation at the bottom of the page. The audience and contents of each type of kit are listed below. Libraries may also want to consider putting together their own smaller versions of the kits to use for eclipse programming.

Checkout Terms & Conditions

  • Solar Eclipse Kits are a service provided by APLS and may only be checked out by library staff with an APLS library account. If your library does not currently have an APLS account, one will be made at the time of your booking. Kits are not permitted to be loaned to individual patrons, schools or other libraries.

  • NASA kits are oversize and will be sent out via UPS. Kits will be shipped to the ordering library must be accepted by and managed by a library staff member. When the activity is completed, the borrowing library is responsible for the collection of the materials, packaging them up and returning them to APLS. A return UPS label will be emailed to the borrowing library prior to return.

  • Solar Eclipse Kits may be kept as long as 30 days; however, libraries may return kits earlier.
