Introduction
This LibGuide is intended to give libraries and library patrons an overview of Alabamiana available for borrowing at Alabama Public Library Service (APLS). Preference is given to books published in the last ten years, historically significant works by Alabamians or about Alabama, and award-winning Alabama authors and books. Older materials and materials about specific places in Alabama were excluded for space. Thus, the LibGuide is not exhaustive and users are encouraged to search APLS’ or their local library’s catalog for materials of interest not included here.
Alabama public library employees, federal and state employees and their dependents, and federal and state retirees may borrow directly from APLS. Users who do not fit the above categories may borrow APLS materials through their local library’s interlibrary loan (ILL) department. Public libraries consulting this LibGuide are encouraged to consider purchasing any materials relevant to their collections.
