Kathryn Tucker Windham (1918-2011) was the Grande Dame of Alabama ghost stories for more than forty years. Per her account, she was inspired to write about ghosts after living in a house in Selma haunted by a polite poltergeist she came to call Jeffrey. Beginning with Thirteen Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey and continuing through many sequels, Mrs. Windham's books entertained and occasionally scared children (and their parents) in schools all over the southeastern United States while also preserving many local legends. In addition to writing her ghost series and other works, Mrs. Windham was also a very skilled storyteller who appeared before hundreds of appreciative audiences. We are proud to have a large collection of Mrs. Windham's works, all available for circulation.
