Scary Alabama: Children's Books

A guide to supernatural lore set in Alabama or written by Alabama authors.

Books for Children and Young Readers

The Alabama Public Library Service does not collect children's books as a general rule unless the books are specifically about Alabama or written by an Alabama writer. Your local public library will have a much larger collection of Halloween themed books for children.

However, we do have a few books that are appropriate for younger readers. The top section are picture books for very young children, and the bottom row are chapter books for Young Adult readers. In addition, the works of Kathryn Tucker Windham, who has a section elsewhere on this page, are appropriate for most children who are able to read chapter books.
