Free Online Resources: Ancestry Library Edition

About Ancestry

ProQuest has partnered with Ancestry.com to create Ancestry® Library Edition, one of the most important genealogical collections available today.  It has unparalleled coverage of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records, as well as record collections from Canada, Europe, Australia and other areas of the world. This resource, with thousands of databases and billions of indexed names, is essential to having a broad genealogy collection available to your patrons. In celebration of Alabama’s bicentennial, ALE is now available for use at all Alabama public libraries.

Access

To provide access, post this link to your homepage and/or database page: http://ancestrylibrary.proquest.com/aleweb/ale/do/login. Ancestry Library Edition is IP authenticated, so access should be granted automatically without the need of a username and password. Please note that Ancestry can only be accessed from within the library.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED FOR A PASSWORD

Occasionally, a building's IP address can change which will cause an access issue for your library. If you are unable to automatically authenticate into Ancestry, please do the following steps:

1) Go to https://www.whatismyip.com/ and copy your current IP address.

2) Email your IP address to the APLS Library at reference@apls.state.al.us and let us know that you are having trouble accessing Ancestry. The library will report your issue to ProQuest and work to resolve your issue within 24 hours.
